The relegation of Aston Villa from the Premier League has finally been confirmed by results today.
Needless to say, this is a miserable day for Villa’s supporters and everyone involved with the club, but it’s also a sad day in the Premier League’s history.
We at Metro.co.uk are all in mourning over Villa’s collapse, and here’s five reasons why…
Villa’s glory is not likely to leave a significant record in the Premier League history, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t provided us with some of the country’s top players within several years.
Big names like Dwight Yorke, Gareth Barry, James Milner, Ashley Young and Christian Benteke started their careers at Villa Park before going on to play for the bigger clubs, with most who became a key playmakers of the clubs won multiple Premier League titles and in some cases more.
Although they’ve so often been forced to sell their stars, Villa fans have got used to seeing more quality and commitment than has been on display from this pitiful squad this season.
