Intriguing match of the 2 EPL deadly rivals: Southampton vs Chelsea

Preview. Southampton vs Chelsea, 27.02.2016

Southampton qualified to Europe League last year and it seemed to be accidental. And one time success taking into account the weak start of this season of PL. Nevertheless, the team managed to totally change it’s defeated run, managed to win back many points and occupy 6th position of PL.

Southampton lacks the only 1 points to qualify to UEFA. The match will be played on February 27 at St. Mary’s Stadium.

The Saints was not defeated 6 matches in a row, and managed to gain 16 points out 18 possible.

Moreover, they played all those matches goalless thankful to their return of the goalkeeper Fraser Forster. He was injured in March 2015 playing against Burnley and couldn’t recover for a long time. He played his first match after injury in January 2016, and the Saints didn’t miss a goal since then.

It is interesting to know, that Southampton played 20 matches, 6 of them were played to zero, compiling in average 1.2 points for the game. After Forster’s confident return, they started to score 2.7 points in average.

The Saints welcome Chelsea in their own backyard on weekends.

The Blues after retirement of Jose Mourinho was not defeated a single match out of 10 which is the best result among all PL teams. Despite 20 goals scored by Chelsea for 10 rounds, with the only Tottenham to score more, they managed to win only 4 times and showed 3rd results for the last rounds of PL and didn’t catch up that much as they expected.

For instance, Chelsea lacks 14 points to qualify to the Champions League, with Jose Mourinho lacked 17 points. By the way, Southampton along with Tottenham managed to score more points than the Pensioners.

The Saints became the best PL team in defense missing only 5 goals.

Chelsea defense was not that strong as they missed 10 goals, but last 4 away matches without Mourinho went goalless. The defense of Blues were proven solid and the Saints don’t have a big chance to destroy it. We are likely to witness the match with a draw.

By the way, 3 out 7 previous matches between them were drawn, the rest of matches were won by each of the team.
