Kim Jong-un: We will dominate in the football world
The State Council Chairman of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un has recently stated the football is a strategic priority in the development of North Korean sport.
The latest “success” of the North Korean football was quarterfinals in 1966 World Cup when the North Korean team lost to Italy.
Much water has flown under the bridge since that time and North Korea now has an international football school in Pyongyang, which was opened in 2013.
“Currently we endeavor to dominate in Asia and I hope we’ll be able to dominate in the world in future”, – says the coach of the school, Li Yu.
There are stories, that the North Korean team will soon have players stronger than Lionel Messi.
Nowadays, the national team rank 126 in the world football list. North Korea is standing below Armenia and Ethiopia. North Korea is far behind regional rivals such as China, Japan and South Korea as well.
