Douglas Costa de Souza was born on September 14, 1990 in the Brazilian city Sapucaia do Sul. He started his professional career as a football player in Grêmio club, having signed a contract with them in 2008. This club gave career’s start to Ronaldinho in due course. And it took part in the Brazilian Serie A at that time.

The player managed to score in his debut match already: Douglas Costa’s goal helped the team to defeat Botafogo. This ball was the only one for the midfielder that year. In total, he played in 6 matches.

Douglas Costa was in the first Grêmio team next season, but scored only a goal in 29 matches. The football player transferred to Shakhtar (Donetsk) for €6 million in January 2010.

The Brazilian football player did not take long to settled down in FC Shakhtar Donetsk. A few Brazilians played for the Ukrainian club at that time, and Douglas Costa blended into the team easily. The midfielder spent nearly 6 years with the team.

Douglas’ debut for Shakhtar happened during the Europa League match against English Fulham F.C. The player substituted Jadson on the 75th minute. Douglas Costa also came on as a substitution at home on the Donbass Arena. Shakhtar lost to England 2:3 based on the results of the two matches’ confrontation.

However, Shakhtar Donetsk became the champion of Ukraine that season. It was the first trophy for Douglas Costa with the Miners.

Douglas helped the team to reach the Champions League playoffs for the first time in history in the 2010/2011 season. And the only Barcelona, the future tournament’s winner, managed to stop the Miners run in 1/4 finals.

Shakhtar targeted the Champions League playoffs only twice in the next four years and both times took off at the stage of 1/8 finals. But they inevitably became the country’s champion. Douglas Costa played 141 matches and scored 29 goals in total in orange-black jersey of UPL.

The football player made his debut for the first Brazilian national team in a control match against Turkey in autumn 2014.

Transfer to Bayern Munich

Douglas Costa transferred to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2015. The transfer cost was €30 million: this is one of the most expensive purchases in the club’s history (4th place). Douglas Costa got the 11th number, previously taken by Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Brazilian midfielder made his debut for Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup match where the Munich lost on penalties to Wolfsburg. Douglas played on the field all ninety minutes.

Douglas Costa scored his first goal for the German team to Hamburg after 13 days with the team.

But he was criticized by his partner Arjen Robben after the German’s victory over Bayer Leverkusen in early September, 2015. The Dutchman judged him for a spectacular rainbow feint shot. Transfer to Juventus

The Turin club informed about the agreement with Bayern regarding 26-year-old Brazilian winger’s loan till July 2018. Douglas Costa’s transfer will cost Juventus €6 million under the contract.

Italian champions have the right to repurchase the player in a year for €40 million. Juventus will pay the transfer amount within 2 years. Bayern Munich can also receive €1 million of bonuses in case of the Brazilian great performance.

Costa will play for Juve with number 11.
