Officially: Di Matteo sacked from Aston Villa
The Italian coach, Roberto di Matteo took the lead of Aston Villa at the end of the last season with the task to return the club back to the Premier League. However, he showed a very bad start in the current season. At the end of 11 rounds, the Brummies have earned only 10 points and settled at the 19th position in the standings.
Patience of the board ran out quickly. The mentor was fired after working at the club just 124 days.
The former coach of Schalke, West Brom and Chelsea, which led the Aristocrats to their first win in the Champions League, lost his job, without spending a half of season at the helm of the Villans.
The public statement of the club voices the following:
“Aston Villa has stopped the cooperation with coach Roberto Di Matteo.”
“The club has decided to resort to such measures after disappointing results – 19th place in the Championship standings.”
“The club thanks to Roberto for the help in team’s rebuilding and wishes him all the best in the future.”
“Steve Clarke will serve as a coach until a new one is to be found” – the statement read.
