Asian Show from Riyad Mahrez
Blogger 4Gamblers shares his impressions about the first day of the Premier League Asia Trophy.
The 8th Asia Trophy championship is played among the English Premier League clubs in all of Hong Kong. The organizers decided not to invite the Chinese clubs this time. Their matches at the tournament did not have much interest among local fans in past years. While the meetings of Leicester vs West Bromwich and Liverpool vs Crystal Palace gathered full stadiums.
Surely, one couldn’t demand spectacular football from the teams, however there was a slight hope for that. It seemed really strange to see the hosting stadium field grass in an improper condition. You could observe from the first match’s minutes how hard the ball was rolling across the field.
Next, I offer to discuss match day main events.
Riyad Mahrez is the Leicester’s main weapon
First let’s talk about Leicester vs West Bromwich game. Mahrez was the Foxes only first team player on the field in the first half. The rest of the players were from the reserve. No doubt, this fact affected the team’s game. Only Riyad was the only one to create dangerous moments in the first 45 minutes. The Blues played slowly and were not a well-knit team with the exception of rare flurries of activity.
West Bromwich played with their first team. They played great at first. The new team’s player Jay Rodriguez confirmed it with a goal. The Throstles quickly ran off into counterattacks: Rodriguez cooperated perfectly with Salomón Rondón and Matt Phillips. But over time, T the ony Pulis’s team seemed to be substituted by the other one. All the team defended too deep and played like this till the end of the match.
Riyad Mahrez in turn beat several opponents by fits and starts all the time and applied a series of dangerous touches on West Brom goal. He created an imbalance in the Throstles defense, which his partners used. The Algerian game reminded the season before last, where he was the best Premier League player.
Mahrez was substituted in the second half, and Danny Drinkwater, Christian Fuchs, Jamie Vardy and the other first team players appeared on the field. But the Craig Shakespeare’s team had almost no dangerous moments. You can recall only one or two Drinkwater’s dangerous passes to Vardy, running into the penalty area, however, goalless. And that’s pretty much it.
Shakespeare needs to rearrange the combinational team’s game in the next matches.
